This is Kusum (left) and Wimalasiri (right) from Piliyandala, Sri Lanka. They are both completely blind. Wimalasiri used to work in a paper factory but lost his job in 2020 due to the COVID pandemic. They are parents of two young sons of age 9 and 13. Life was difficult as it is amidst the pandemic, but their disability and lack of support from the authorities made their lives even more challenging. However, Kusum is a true warrior. She is one of the most courageous and resilient women I've ever met in my life. She faces all her life challenges with positivity, wearing her beautiful smile always.
By the time I got to know Kusum through my old schoolmate, another friend had invested in an incense making machine for them. Incense sticks are commonly used in the yoga and Wellness industry overseas, mostly imported from Asia. I got very excited about their choice of business where I can step into help them export their products overseas. It's still a baby business. "Pinsaru'' is their brand name which means "full of Blessings". I truly believe that every waft of aroma defused from their incense shares the blessings of their full hearts.
I have already bought a stock of her incense sticks and they are wonderful. They don't have a packaging yet, but in the meantime, I'm starting to sell them loose as part of my Tharanga Wellness range.
I'm reaching out to my friends in the UK. If you use incense sticks at home, know someone who does, or sell incense sticks in their business, please try Kusum's products or help us spread the word. You won't be disappointed. All the profit from sales will go towards their business, to sustain Kusum's family and the education of their 2 children. Please contact me directly to purchase Pinsaru incense sticks
Even if you live elsewhere in the world and would like to support Kusum and her family business, please get in touch, we can make arrangements. Let us all come together to support Kusum and her family grow their business and build a happy and independent life.
